Acupuncture
What is acupuncture
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) views health as a harmonious balance of the opposing forces of “yin” and “yang” within the life force, “qi” (pronounced “chi”). Imbalance in these forces is believed to cause illness. TCM practitioners access energy flows through 350 acupuncture points, using specific needle combinations to restore balance.
While the existence of meridians and acupuncture points lacks scientific proof, numerous studies suggest acupuncture’s effectiveness for certain conditions. Some experts use neuroscience to explain acupuncture, viewing acupuncture points as areas for stimulating nerves, muscles, and connective tissue. This stimulation increases blood flow and activates the body’s natural painkillers and hormones from both the peripheral and central nervous systems.
