Manual Therapy

What is manual therapy

Manual therapy is a hands-on approach used by physical therapists to diagnose and treat issues with soft tissues and joints. It involves various techniques, such as:

  • Neural mobilisations: Gentle movements to relieve tension or pressure on nerves.
  • Soft tissue massage: Manipulation of muscles, tendons, and ligaments to improve circulation and reduce pain.
  • Trigger point release: Applying pressure to specific points in muscles to relieve tension and pain.
  • Passive range of motion: The therapist moves your joints through their full range, helping to maintain flexibility.
  • Active assisted range of motion: You move your joints with some help from the therapist.
  • Soft tissue stretches: Lengthening muscles and tendons to improve flexibility and range of motion.
  • Joint manipulation: A quick, high-velocity thrust to improve joint mobility.
  • Joint mobilizations: Slower, rhythmic movements to improve joint mobility and reduce pain.
